Academic Enrichment

Boy Scout Troop Program

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana hosts programs for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of all ages.  For a fee of $7 per scout, boys can experience a variety of Aquatics, Sports, and Fitness programs offered to fulfill badges, rank achievements, belt loops, and pins.  Programs can also be customized to suit the interests of the group or just for fun.  Contact for more information.

Girl Scout Journey Program

The YMCA has partnered with the Girl Scouts to offer programs that support the Girl Scout Journey Program.  For a fee of $7 per scout, we’ll help you Discover, Connect, and Take Action through various workshops and classes.  Contact for more information.

German Classes

A former USI German professor will guide participants into the culture and structure of spoken German, building on skills participants have acquired in school. Each class is offered for the following Sessions: 5/4 – 5/22, 5/25 – 6/19, or 6/22 – 7/10. Fees listed are per Session.

Leadership Development

In It To Win It: The 7 Habits Way

The IN IT TO WIN IT program for 7th & 8th grades, helps youth develop helpful habits that will make them more productive family members, friends, students and community members. Participants meet for eight sessions and are led by two trained facilitators who have been certified to lead the program. The program is based on the book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’, by Sean Covey.

Financial Fitness

(Youth-Adults)As a regional partner of the Federal Reserve Bank, the YMCA has been able to offer many financial education opportunities to youth and adults in our community:

  • Reality Store: Partnering with local and state agencies, the YMCA presents this reality-store event at local middle schools to educate youth on the realities of the cost of living.
  • Money Smart Week: Opportunities to learn more about making sound financial decisions are sponsored by the YMCA partnering with local and state agencies on issues such as taxes, re-banking, budgeting, and planning for the future during this national annual event.

Cyber Safety

Our Cyber Safety for Kids class is a must for kids ages 12 & older! Protecting information and staying safe online is important. In this class, kids learn how to make wise decisions online and learn how to avoid cyber bullying.

Our Cyber Safety for Parents class is a smartphone/Internet safety class that teaches parents how to monitor digital behavior and look for warning signs in their children’s smartphone/Internet usage. Participants will review mobile apps as well as discuss fears and challenges that parents face in the digital space.
