Aquatics FAQ

We are here to answer any questions that you may have about swimming at the Y.  Some of the most frequently asked questions are listed below for your convenience. Simply rollover a question to reveal its answer.  For questions not listed below, please email Kelly Boylls.

How do I know which level of swim lessons is appropriate for my child(ren)?

Since our lessons are skill based, this Lesson Selector can help guide you to the appropriate class level.

Does my baby need a swim diaper?

Until your child is fully potty trained, he/she must wear a swim diaper at all times in the pool.

Is my child old enough to swim on their own?

To make our pools safe for everyone, all children ages 9 and under must be accompanied, in the water, by a person age 18 or older. Children ages 10-11 may use the pool without direct supervision as long as their parent or caretaker, over the age of 18, is in the facility. All youth age 12 and older may utilize the pool without parent supervision.  See our full Age Policy here >>

Are flotation devices allowed?

Our Dunigan location does allow flotation devices if the lifeguard approves them.  Our Downtown location does not allow flotation devices.

When are the inside Splash features at the Dunigan pool available?

The Aquatics staff would be happy to turn on the inner water features anytime we are not having water fitness classes or swim lessons. Simply ask the lifeguard if those features can be turned on.

When is the outside Splash Pad at Dunigan open?

Our Dunigan location has a Splash Pad outside for children to use during the summer months when weather permits.  The Splash Pad officially opens on Memorial Day.  During the summer season, the Splash Pad is open MonFri 10:30am-7:00pm,  Sat 10:30am-4:30pm, and Sun 12:00pm-4:30pm.  In the fall after school has started, the Splash Pad is open Mon-Fri 10:00am-1:00pm, Sat 10:00am-7:30pm, and Sun 12:00pm-5:00pm as long as it is 72° or warmer.  The Splash Pad closes for the season after Labor Day.
