Pre-School

Half Day Pre-School Programs

The Y provides a variety of preschool classes in a safe, familiar environment to develop self confidence, creativity, social skills and large and fine motor skills.

  • Y’s Rangers – Our half day preschool program provides hands on experience in a Christian environment. This class, for 3-4 year olds, meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children DO need to be potty-trained to attend.
  • Caring Cadets – Our half day preschool program provides hands on experience in a Christian environment. This class, for 4-5 year olds, focuses on kindergarten-readiness skills and meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Children DO need to be potty-trained to attend.

 


Leadership Development

In It To Win It: The 7 Habits Way

The IN IT TO WIN IT program for 7th & 8th grades, helps youth develop helpful habits that will make them more productive family members, friends, students and community members. Participants meet for eight sessions and are led by two trained facilitators who have been certified to lead the program. The program is based on the book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’, by Sean Covey.

Financial Fitness

(Youth-Adults)As a regional partner of the Federal Reserve Bank, the YMCA has been able to offer many financial education opportunities to youth and adults in our community:

  • Reality Store: Partnering with local and state agencies, the YMCA presents this reality-store event at local middle schools to educate youth on the realities of the cost of living.
  • Money Smart Week: Opportunities to learn more about making sound financial decisions are sponsored by the YMCA partnering with local and state agencies on issues such as taxes, re-banking, budgeting, and planning for the future during this national annual event.

 


Arts & Humanities

Now more than ever YMCA’s appreciate the power of the arts and humanities, especially on childhood development, and seeks to engage members by offering art classes for youth, teens and adults in a multitude of mediums. From clay classes to acrylic and watercolor painting, art at the YMCA will build a healthy spirit, mind and body. Express Yourself: Art Classes for Kids

Children will learn about the basic elements of art: line, shape, color, space, texture, form and how to incorporate these into artwork. Artwork will be created using many different mediums. These classes will be taught by individuals with art degrees.

Spanish Classes for Kids

Children will learn small phrases as well as colors, numbers, and the alphabet from enthusiastic tutors from USI’s Modern and Classical Languages Department. Children will also learn about Spanish culture and have a fiesta at the end of each session to celebrate what they have learned! Classes will be fun and effective for every child!

Art and Career

This program is designed for middle school and high school students who are interested in art and want to know different career paths they can pursue with an art background. Each week we will meet with a different downtown business that utilizes art in their daily practices. The students will have a hands-on project to help with each week. (Transportation will be provided if necessary.
