Camp Carson

Summer Day Camp

With the YMCA Day Camp, your children will get a real sense of what summertime is all about. YMCA Day Campers pack more into a summer than they ever thought they could. A series of 11 one-week sessions are offered at six locations all summer long. Girls and boys, ages 5 to 10, are given the opportunity to meet new friends while experiencing the fun and excitement summertime brings.

Leadership Camp

This camp is designed to target the interests of boys and girls 11 to 13 years of age. Activities will require the participants to take an active leadership role in developing the camp curriculum under the supervision of YMCA leadership staff. The curriculum will mix leadership development, community service projects, and development of weekly schedules, mentoring, field trips, and other activities. This program will require children to accept and demonstrate the YMCA challenge of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.

Specialty Camps

Y Holiday Camps

It’s a holiday, there is no school, and the kids are home! What to do? We have the answer. The Y offers special holiday camps during Spring Break and the Christmas holiday period. Your children will be well taken care of and they will have fun during those out of school hours.

YMCA Winter/Spring Break Day Camp is available for children 5 to 10 years of age who need care during winter break. Children may attend from 6:30am until 5:30pm.

Locations:
Winter: Downtown YMCA
Spring: Downtown YMCA & YMCA Dunigan Express
All participants will need to bring a sack lunch (including drink), swimsuit, towel, and jacket each day of camp. A schedule of camp activities will be available on the first day of camp.

Summer Theme Camps

Sports Camps… Something Greater

YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is now offering your child a chance to learn about sports with a hint of YMCA flare. Join us this summer! 

We have pre-k sports camps starting at ages 3 up to camps for ages 12 and 13. See below for a list of sport camp options with dates. The camps will be help at both Dunigan and Downtown locations.

DISCOVER SOMETHING SPECIAL IN YOU

Campers create, learn and play throughout the summer at YMCA Specialty Camps!

Trained Y staff create hands-on, structured activities in art, science, culture and fun girls play. Each week’s theme offers new games, field trips and fun.

Drama Camp -Ages 8-12

Lights, Camera, Action! Let your imagination soar when you come to YMCA Drama camp. We will be doing skits, talent shows, learning about the ins and outs of theatre, and much more. To top off drama camp, we will be going to see a dress rehearsal or the PEF Summer Musical.

 


Young Chefs -Ages 8-12

Explore the chef in you, with YMCA Young Chefs camp. At Young Chefs camp we will teach the basic techniques needed when cooking, the children will learn kitchen safety, the proper way to handle food as well as food preparation. We will be exploring healthy ways to fix snacks and meals. We will also learn some cookie and cake decorating techniques. Our young chefs will travel to a local Evansville kitchen where the children will learn cooking methods from an instructor. By the end of the week each child will have a book full of recipes to take home and share with their family.


 Art Camp - Ages 8-12

Let your creativity shine at Art Camp. During art camp children will travel to Fired Up to paint pottery to paint, we will be working with local artist and learning different types of art, from watercolors to pottery. The week will be filled with activities and trips to expand your artistic imagination.


 CSI Camp - Ages 8-12

At Crime Scene Investigation Camp we will explore all different aspects of Police Investigation. The Evansville City Crime Scene Unit will be doing a presentation as well as the SWAT Team. We will do mock investigations, fingerprinting and much more.


YMCA Staff

The YMCA Day Camp staff is a carefully selected and trained group of young men and women. Some are returning from last summer; some are new to our YMCA. All staff have been chosen for their experience, special talents, sensitivity, and creativity. Criminal history background
checks have been conducted and filed on all employees. All staff receive training in camp programs, age appropriate activities, discipline, and emergency procedures. Our staff is also certified in CPR and First Aid.
